Hallyu wave strikes once again as some of the hottest K-pop idol bands took to the stage at Marina Bay Sands last night
Held at Marina Bay Sands Exhibition hall, the Mnet Ultimate Live in Asia - Singapore 2010 concert saw five Korean bands - miss A, MBLAQ, Beast, 2AM and 2PM in attendance last night.
Rookie boy band MBLAQ, protégé of Korean world star Rain, kicked off the event with much aplomb, warming the crowds with two up-tempo numbers "Oh Yeah" and "Y", before continuing with a series of special solo performances. The concert also marked MBLAQ's debut on local soil.
Despite being one member short, the only girl group of the night, miss A, did not disappoint. Clad in tight and short black outfits that showed off their bodies and pretty pins, the lasses demonstrated amazing flexibility as they gyrated and "leg-splits" to songs tunes like "Breathe" and "Good Girl, Bad Girl". A four-member female group, member Suzy was not present last night because of busy drama filming schedules.
Making their return to Singapore after barely half a year, six-member boy band Beast increased the excitement of the audience when they took over the stage with power packed dance tunes like "Mystery" and "Shock". The young'uns also caused an overdrive of camera flashes when they spontaneously leapt around on stage, interacting with the throngs of eager fans.
Arguably the biggest names of the night, "brother" groups 2AM and 2PM, sought to melt hearts with all things cute and romantic.
Decked out in a chic and stylish black and white ensemble from their latest album, Saint O' Clock, the sweet boys of 2AM gave away teddy bears to four lucky concertgoers, while serenading fans with sappy love tunes like "Like Crazy" and "Can't Let You Go Even If I Die".
Cooed 2AM's Changmin, "We few sad that we're not able to give anything to our fans, so we specially prepared these (teddy bears)."
Not to be beaten by fellow label mates, "beastly idols" 2PM - the last act of the night, tossed stalks of roses to the hordes of screaming girls in the crowd. At one point, Taecyeon of 2PM even went down on both knees and planted a kiss on a female fan's hand. (CUE: Aww...)
And as the finale of the concert drew closer, 2PM thrilled fans by sharing hopes of returning to our sunny isle in the near future.
"We enjoyed ourselves tonight and we hope to be back with our own big show soon," announced Nichkhun, causing heart palpitations amongst elated fans in the hall.
With potentially another band set to return next year, it seems like the Korean craze is here to stay. Rejoice, K-pop fans!
