2PM Ok Taecyeon (22) has revealed that he had been planning giving up his American permanent residency for a long time to fill out his military duties.

Ok Taecyeon visited Seoul Sejongro American embassy on the 1st of December and submitted his American permanent residency renunciation confirmation form.

Taecyeon received a public service worker status in 2008 in a health check-up. However, he was influenced by the recent Yeonpyungdo incident, doubt at alleged military service corruption, and the public's general sensitivity towards entering military service, and gave up his permanent residency whilst revealing his intention to become an active-duty soldier.

At Taecyeon's courageous decision, fans applauded hotly, and Taecyeon has been able to stand his ground more firmly as a 'Beast Idol'.

However, some netizens showed different opinions. They pointed out, "Permanent residency only means allowing lawful living in America, but doesn't mean the same thing as the citizenship that symbolizes the American".

Also, they explained, "Giving up permanent residency to live in Korea for a long time for profit-making purposes is not giving it up to go to the military, but it is given up for personal gain. In America, for a person who doesn't have a purpose to live in America, the permanent residency is revoked".

This means that even though Taecyeon does not give up his permanent residency by his own will, if he kept up activities as a singer in Korea, his permanent residency would have been revoked naturally anyway.

Another netizen pointed out, "Giving up permanent residency has nothing to do with military duty problems. So from now, I hope that there aren't happenings where active South Korean soldiers don't feel relative deprivation due to excessive wrapping up".

Related to Taecyeon giving up his permanent residency, his company JYP has shown their perspective of "It is an issue that he chose along with his own personal problems and will. There is nothing that the outside has interfered with".
