110302 Dream High's Taecyeon and Wooyoung Coverage! (Hanryu Pia)
In Korea the viewer ratings for 'Dream High' increased with every episode, and even in Japan the drama became popular through broadcasting on DATV. And now I have infiltrated a filming location to collect data for "Hanryu Pia 3/31 Issue"! For this magazine, even though I was at a filming location to interview them for an article, Taecyeon and Wooyoung of 2PM, as well as Kim Soo Hyun who is gaining huge support as an icon in his 20s, all introduced themselves to Hanryu Pia.
The photoshoot location that the Hanryu Pia staff visited was a college auditorium in Shiheung, Gyeonggi-do. It was the day they shot the scene when they announce the school, Kirin Arts High school, later to become the drama's main setting. After numerous actors and staff had finished their preparations, the rehearsal started off with Wooyoung inside a cage wrapped in pure white feathered clothing resembling a swan, his arms flapping gracefully as he danced. It looked like it would eventually become difficult for him since the filming for the dance scene continued on for what seemed like hours, but Wooyoung never showed any pain in his facial expression and tackled the scene in earnest. And then there was Taecyeon, who, wearing black clothing that revealed his burly arms, went onto the stage whenever there was free time during rehearsal and romped around inside the birdcage or conversed with staff while he waited for his turn.
I finished interviewing Taecyeon and Kim Soo Hyun during filming intervals, but it seemed an interview with Wooyoung couldn't be done so I had to withdraw from the location that day at 6 in the morning. In order to try and interview Wooyoung again I had to go the actual Kirin Arts High School set. "Is this really the location of the set?" was the question conjured in my mind as all that could be seen of the set was that it was nothing more than a large factory that had been assembled together. Perhaps if the performers hadn't parked their cars there, it could've been a dangerous place to pass through without even realizing (laugh).
The massive set had 2 built-in floors: the first floor had the auditorium, dance practice room, standby stage room, etc, while the second floor had rooms for school matters, a board of directors room, as well as shops. I asked the staff "What is the most difficult part?" to which they all seemed to reply that the only difficulty was: "It's cold." Since the set didn't have any kind of heating system, the actors and staff had to wear thick coats to keep out the cold. There were heaters and the like prepared for this reason, but once the filming began they all had to be shut off to prevent the noise. When Wooyoung wasn't in the middle of filming, he wore a thick yellow jacket as he, too, had to battle the cold.
However, the feeling I got when I met them for the interviews was that, even in the severe cold that made everyone shudder, the strong passion that Taecyeon and Wooyoung, and even Soo Hyun held, couldn't be cooled off. With Taecyeon and Wooyoung's resolutions to throw off their title of "born to be an idol singer" and Soo Hyun's resolution to "grow from being a child actor into an adult actor," they had the skills it took to express the script's hidden meanings while at the same time continuing their dance practices through the night. They went beyond their 'Dream High' roles, making the filming site able to sense how passionately they were holding onto their dreams.
I hope you all will be able to feel the emotions they put into their work through their appearance in "Hanryu Pia 3/31 Issue." Also, please continue supporting the three of them in the future.
