On the line with Jay Park for 600 seconds
A week before Jay Park revealed his feelings about leaving the group to the Korean press, UWeekly made an overseas call to him. Initially, the interviewers had many questions to ask regarding his departure from the group, but were told that "Jay Park will not answer any question regarding 2PM and the withdrawal" and had only 10 minutes to interview him.

[main column]
After the dramatic departure from 2PM last August, Jay Park went on a short hiatus before he returned to the scene recently. He expresses that life does not end there, and would like to continue on with life, grabbing every opportunity presented to him.
U: Hello Jay, how are you feeling right now?
JP: Hello, not bad, thank you.
U: How do you feel about coming down to Singapore for your fanmeet at the end of September?
JP: This will be my second time visiting Singapore. The last time i was there, i even went shopping. I remember shopping in two big malls, what were they called? I can't recall anymore. I really like Singapore's weather, really sunny, and the air quality here isn't bad too. I'll be staying in Singapore for up to 4 days, and will be participating in the F1 performance on top of the fan gathering organised.
U: You'll be in Singapore during the F1 Night Race season, do you like car racing? Are you an avid fan of cars?
JP: I don't drive in America, so I don't pay special attention to car racing, but i still do watch it once in a while, it's pretty exciting.
U: What surprises have you prepared for your SIngaporean fans for your fanmeet on 25 September in Singapore?
JP: This will be my first time performing in Singapore together with my band [translator note: he means crew] (AOM), and I'll be showing the fans my newest MV too!
U: When you returned to Seattle from Seoul, you kept a low profile until your recent comeback. Would you like to share with us what plans you have for the near future?
JP: Before my visit to Singapore, I'll be having fanmeets in both Hong Kong and Taiwan (editor's note: Taiwan's fanmeet is cancelled) [translator's note: Hong Kong and Shanghai's fanmeet is cancelled too], and I'll be going down to Shanghai in October.
U: After going solo, as you had to do many things alone, did you feel helpless in the beginning?
JP: It was actually fine, I'm leading quite a fulfilling life now, I'm either leaving messages and information on my Twitter or uploading self-recorded videos on Youtube, which I find really fun, although these videos might seem really DIY. I feel that Youtube is a good platform for publicizing. Especially for us unsigned artistes, without a big company backing us, Youtube is the best tool for us to promote ourselves to the public. Take for instance for the upcoming Asia fanmeet tour, I edited and put together a video [translator's note: portion in italics is not accurately translated] and uploaded it on my Youtube channel, and the response was quite satisfying!
U: Since you're a Korean-American, have you ever thought of advancing into the American music industry?
JP: I do pay a lot of attention to popular Western music, and if I had the opportunity, I would certainly want to try releasing an album in America.
U: However, it seems that very few Korean stars have been successful in their attempts to break into the American music industry, for instance BoA and Seven did not succeed and a while ago, the Wonder Girls too did not show any spectacular results......
JP: That's undeniable, since the American mainstream music market is really big, and newcomers emerge everyday, it's won't be easy to capture the attention of the people. In my opinion for an Asian singer to succeed in the American music industry, he needs to have a fresh and natural style.
U: In the period when you were in America, did you meet up with any local musicians?
JP: A while back I got to meet up with Lady Gaga and a few other American singers, but it was only a casual meeting and we did not have any further contact. Previously Usher left a message on my Twitter [translator's note: this was what UWeekly wrote but i guess he meant that he left a message for Usher instead], which later became a talking point, but I never got to meet him.
U: After this fanmeet tour in Asia, what other plans do you have?
JP: I don't have any plans currently, but I'll seize any opportunity when it comes. Be it singing, acting or dancing, I'll gladly undertake the challenge!
