[NEWS] 100523 Critics reevaluate the culture of Dream Concert

The 2010 Dream Concert held on the 22nd has been causing a stir once it has been revealed that fans chanted 'Park Jaebum' during 2PM's performance.

2PM perfored WITHOUT YOU and DON'T STOP CAN'T STOP but the majority of the fandoms chanted Park Jaebum's name, not 2PM's.

A fan that attended Dream Concert revealed, "Not only when they were singing, but the fans refused to answer when 2PM member Taecyeon was emceeing."

When it was first revealed that 2PM would be attending Dream Concert, various fandom boards had a '2PM Ten Minute' warning circulating, making many wonder whether the 'Ten Minute' controversy will be returning.

The 'Ten Minute' controversy occurred in the 2008 Dream Concert against SNSD, in which a fan union created a silent treatment without any cheers.

However, this year's Dream Concert also had a clash between SNSD's fandom and Super Junior's fandom regarding their seating blocks. Many have stepped forward with the opinion that Dream Concert must be put to an end.

"Turn off your light sticks!" "Park Jaebum! Park Jaebum!"

Omitted summary.

With 20 different fandoms consisting of over 40,000 fans gathered in one area, the rivalry between fandoms became heated at the concert. After experiencing safety issues, Dream Concert implemented a system that kept fandoms within their blocks by having fandoms specifically reserve their seats. However, this has only caused block seating fights to spark between fandoms each year.

This year, the fight for seating continued. SNSD's fandom complained from the get go about the size of their seating and stated that it was not enough to fit their fandom, going on to target their frustrations onto other fandoms. Even on the day of the concert, situations where another fandom was put into a different fandom's block was easy to be seen. Everywhere, fights began to break out and verbal attacks ensued, a result of the confusing seating arrangements.

The rivalry between fandoms also continued. As soon as SNSD appeared on stage, other fandoms began to shout at one another to turn off their light sticks. SNSD had already experienced the silent treatment at the 2008 Dream Concert before. When 2PM appeared on stage, all of the fandoms began chanting the name of 2PM's terminated member, Park Jaebum. When it was time for Super Junior's ending stage, fandoms simply got up and left. These are boycott situations that show the great distance between a proper performance culture.

With every year bringing about more controversy, the after effects of the Dream Concert are great. On the internet, fandoms are at war and various rumors are circulating, along with hateful replies towards other celebrities. This is the hidden side of the Dream Concert, a culture that promotes dreams and hope amongst the youth.
