Jay Park is an American b-boy, dancer, Korean American singer, rapper, songwriter, composer and actor.

He was a former member and leader of South Korean boyband 2PM, and is part of Seattle-based b-boy crew Art of Movement.

Jay Park, after a successful audition for JYP Entertainment in the U.S, moved to Korea and signed with the company as a rapper and b-boy trainee.

He was scouted personally by JYP Entertainment and was trained to improve his singing and also his Korean for four years before debuting as a leader in 2PM with the stage name Jaebeom.
He was originally supposed to debut as a solo idol however the company changed the plan at the last minutes as he was needed to be a leader in one of group under same company.

On 9th July 2007, Jay and Ye Eun(Wonder Girls) were feat. in a song of Seoul's Sad Song OST.

On 27th May 2009, Jay Park was feat. in one of the tracks in V.O.S's Routine Free.

On September 4, 2009, an internet controversy surfaced regarding him.
The articles talk about posts on his personal Myspace back in 2005 about his dislike for Korea when he was still a trainee for JYP Entertainment.

The comments, written in English to a friend, were misinterpreted and mistranslated by Korean media, quickly spreading across hundreds of news articles.

Although he issued an apology, protesters demanded that he had to withdrawal from 2PM.
Four days later in September 8, he announced on his official fansite that he would leave the group and return to the United States.

After Park returned to the United States, fans changed their perspective on the matter when they realised that his MySpace messages had been badly mistranslated and taken out of context.
Several protests and projects were immediately put into action, designed to inform JYP Entertainment and the general public about the huge support for Park's return to 2PM.

On February 25, 2010, JYPE announced that they had permanently terminated Park’s contract with collective agreement among the other 6 members of 2PM.

The company claimed a moral, but not illegal, personal “mistake” he did in December of the previous year.
No other explanation was offered, despite multiple reassurances given by JYPE on his status in 2PM during the period between December and this announcement, including the publicity for the group’s first full-length album 1:59PM which asserted to the public and their fans that a 2PM without Mr. Park was incomplete.

A conference that JYPE held two days after the announcement later for 87 representatives from major 2PM fan communities reaffirmed the company and members’ collective decision to continue 2PM with six members but failed to provide any further justification behind the dismissal of Park, the group’s leader.

Beginning in November of 2009, eagle-eyed fans found and spread footage of b-boying battles that he had attended and participated in uploaded on Youtube, despite his initial efforts to cover his face from the view of cameras.

On March 6, 2010, Jaebeom and the Art of Movement crew participated in the charity event "Breakin' 4 Haiti", with the proceeds going to Haiti victims.

On March 15, 2010, Park created his own YouTube channel. His first post was a video where he sings a rendition of "Nothin' On You" (with his own rap and lyrics) in his bathroom.

On his 'About Me' page, Park left a message thanking his fans for their support. He also encouraged fans not to hate remaining 2PM members on his behalf.

On March 29, 2010, Rutgers Korean Student Association announced on their website that Park and fellow Art of Movement members Dialtone, ChaCha and Junior would appear as surprise special guests at an annual Korean American festival event called Project Korea III: KSA Cinderella Story at Rutgers University, New Jersey on April 3, 2010.

Merely hours after the festival finished, several videos of the event were uploaded onto internet portal sites, where footage of Park acting as an MC and dancing to Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" on stage drew much positive interest.

On April 14, an associate involved in the production of American dance film Hype Nation confirmed that Park had been cast as the movie's main character.
Filming is set to begin in June 2010, with more than 70% of the scenes to be shot in South Korea.
It was stated that Park will also contribute to the original soundtrack.

On April 20, it was announced on allhiphop.com that Park is recording under Teddy Riley and has completed tracks with Snoop Dogg and T-Pain.
This was later confirmed to be for Park's solo album.

On the same day via notification through Defense Productions' official Twitter, it was also announced that Park will be participating in a concert presented by Defense Productions & Epidemic to be held on May 30, 2010, performing along with Art of Movement, Kero One, MYK and Dok2 from Mapthesoul.com, and Dumbfoundead.

On April 24, Dumbfoundead released a collaboration track featuring Park and Clara Chung on his website, titled "Clouds".

The same day, stirfrytv featured Park in a "Youtube Spotlight" video, where he gives his first interview since the Myspace controversy.
In the video, he also confirms his role in Hype Nation and thanks his fans for their support.

It was revealed that Park will return to Korea through Incheon International Airport with the staff of Hype Nation, Art of Movement, and his parents between May 31 and June 1, 2010. Also being prepared are a press conference for Park's involvement in the movie (which was later revealed to be falsely reported), and a fanmeeting.

Park is to release his first official single titled "Demon", produced by Teddy Riley and originally meant for Michael Jackson, as well as singing 4 songs for Hype Nation's original soundtrack.
Also confirmed was Park's participation in the Hype Nation world tour with B2K that will begin in December, touring across 10 American cities and major cities in Asia.

On May 22, 2010, Park took part in major hip-hop event Claws Out in Seattle as a judge, while fellow Art of Movement member Junior competed.

On May 29, 2010, Los Angeles-based entertainment attorney Ned Sherman, also Founder and CEO of Digital Media Wire, Inc., announced that he would be Park's entertainment legal representative, also stating that several projects for Park were in the works.

On May 30, 2010, Park appeared with Kero One, Dumbfoundead, MYK and DOK2 at The Showbox Sodo in Seattle for a concert along with few members of AOM.

On 15th June 2010, B.o.B and Jay Park collaborated for Nothin' On You.

I hear a lot of you guys' concerns in my ear. Why does Jaebummie keep getting tattoos, then his image becomes worse and he can't go on programs, is Jaebummie going to work underground, why does Jaebummie keep working with ChaCha instead of with a famous producer, why does Jaebummie give AOM plane tickets and a place to stay with food and give them pay and keep them around, when is Jaebummie planning to earn money. I usually don't say these kinds of things. I'm the style that keeps quiet and then shows through my actions, and I do want to go out into TV programs and go on music programs and such but I'm not preparing an album to get no. 1 on a music program once. Along with me, you guys think those things really important, but honestly [i want to change the world and how people think.] In any situation I want to show that if you try really hard and your heart's good you can make it. [AOM is my family] it's stupid in businesslike ways but I'm really happy, seeing my friends' families and friends be proud of seeing my friends do what they love and also earn money with it. My friends' parents thank me, and I really like it that they get fans and like my parents, they can look up their sons' material. Also, most importantly, I have to have my friends to not be bored.~ And I trust in ChaCha's ability, and I produce with him because he's good at this. If he wasn't good, even if he was my friend I wouldn't do this with him. To the people who doubt us, in this song with the beat ChaCha made, I wrote, and Dok2 featured in the rapping, you won't be disappointed. When it gets out, you won't ever doubt again. And I don't try to help to get something out of it but [if we're fam] and we're close then I like helping out. And if you say not to get tattoos it's pretty much like telling me not to rap or to dance. I show my feelings through those kind of things. I won't do it too much. [most importantly] I lurk a lot and since you guys tell me to release an album, I work hard and write songs like this and record, and am trying to film a legit movie. Since it shouldn't be postponed in its release like Demon, since this time I'm in control of everything, it'll come out for sure. If I can make a lot of people happy, and enjoy dancing with friends, and receive love from you guys, it's enough for me. But the album will be real legit, seriously, [i'm not tall i'm not good lookin but i'm a bboy a singer dancer entertainer i'm just jay park, i'm me and no one else accept me for who i am and i'm going to continue to do what i do. that my new years resolution for 2011 thank you everyone for all your support, i love yall jay park always looks out for his peoples.] I can't show all my feelings through this kind of writing, so I'll just show it slowly, step by step. ^ㅠ^

[OMIT OTHER STARS]

◆ Park Jaebum, April 25th '87

It can be said the luck that one wants to avoid most has been met. Instead of acting responsibly and finishing everything from beginning to end and acting while thinking logically about what will benefit one like one should do, if a fortune like this is met, instead of acting logically and wisely, one will be drawn by human attachment to do something unrealistic.

This means that this time is where one will not be able to treat relations and people's requests coldly, and might take responsibilities that are losses and are hard to handle. However, if one did not forget which path he should take, even if time is stolen this year because of this and that happening, one needs to keep going the path till the end. It is okay to be late. It is okay to go crazy. It is just a hope to never give up.

If there is a lover, it is possible a third wheel might budge in so even if it is a very close friend, do not introduce or meet together with him/her.

[OMIT OTHER STARS]

T/N: Of course, this is just a fortune and not to be taken completely seriously.

But still, if this is true, Jay's got a mighty hard year ahead of him. :/

Jay Park wants to collaborate with Charice

By Patricia Esteves (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines - South Korean pop star Jay Park expressed his desire to one day collaborate with Charice who is making a big splash in the US right now.

Park, a former leader of the popular South Korean boy band 2PM, is impressed at the talents of the petite singer.
“I would like to collaborate with Charice, I’d be glad to collaborate with her, ” Park told reporters during a press conference at the Dusit Hotel last Wednesday.

Park is in the country for a concert and a fan meet dubbed Jay Park the Fan Meet 2010 at the SMX Convention Center tonight.
He also revealed his ambition to break through the American music scene and like Charice, penetrate the mainstream music industry through sheer talent and hard work.

Park would like to break down barriers, build cultural bridges and be added to the list of Asian pop stars who succeed in America.
“I do have a lot of interest in breaking out in the American music scene. I do like music a lot and one day hopefully, I can break that barrier, I know Charice right now is doing a big thing over there and she’s much loved over there,” Park said.

Park’s impressive dancing, rapping and singing skills have really not gone unnoticed. He did a collaboration with T-Pain and Snoop Dog and starred in a Hollywood movie Hype Nation after going solo.

He has been compared to South Korean superstar Rain who like him can effortlessly gyrate, leap and somersault in the air.
As for his dance inspirations, Park cites his crew and his Filipino choreographer Andrew Baterina.

He said he is in awe of the talents of Filipinos whether in singing or dancing and supports them. In fact, three members of his crew AOM or Art of Movement are Filipino-Americans, his friends from Seattle from way, way back.

Park takes them with him in his Asian tour.

Aside from Baterina, the other Fil-Ams in Jay’s crew are Daniel Jerome and Chase “Cha-Cha” Malone, an Afro-American-Filipino whose grandparents originally hail from Cebu. They were present at the press conference.

Baterina and Chase expressed excitement about going to the Philippines for the first time while Jerome said he lived in the country briefly when he was very young but is just as excited to set foot in the country again.

“I feel very excited, especially because my parents talk about the Philippines very much and say, I’m gonna go home, gonna go home. I’m 25 now and I’ve never been here so it’s really exciting,” Baterina said.

Chase, on the other hand, also shared his happiness of finally visiting his mom’s motherland.

“My mother has never been here, so it’s my great grandparents who lived here and they’re from Cebu. Actually, I’m happy to be here,” Chase said.

During the presscon reporters noticed Park’s affection for his crew members.

He said what makes the Asian tour joyful is because he is dancing with them.

Park shared that he had his name’s crew AOM tattooed at the back of his right ear. Park said he eats Filipino food like lumpia and adobo, meals that Chase’s mother prepares for them.

“I’ve known them since 2002, 2003, like seven years already but Jerome, I’ve known him since he was in his diapers,” Park joked.
He enthused that his talented crew inspires him and particularly admires Baterina’s expert dance moves.
“As far as dancing is concerned, I get a lot of inspiration from my crew, particularly Andrew, that’s why I asked him to choreograph my songs,” Park said.

When asked if he feels lonely now that he has gone solo, Park said he tries to think positive.
“You know, it doesn’t get really lonely, I bring these guys with me now,” he said.

During their spare time, Park said he bonds with them by playing Starcraft and breakdancing, which they don’t really consider work.
“We do it for fun, it brings a lot of joy to us, but aside from that, we eat at restaurants or come together to play Starcraft,” he said.
On the part of the crew members, they’ve nothing but respect for Park adding that fame has not changed him at all.
“He stayed the same when we met him before,” they said.

Park is also promoting his solo EP (Count on Me) through Warner Music Group Asia Pacific. The EP contains Park’s three versions of the song Nothin’ on You by B.O.B and Bruno Mars.
Why he did choose to cover Nothin’ on You?

“At first, I didn’t really know who the artist was and it wasn’t popular back then. I heard it on the radio a couple of times and it’s just a great song and I fell in love with it. It has really a positive sound to it, that’s why I covered it,” Park said.

Park promised an unforgettable concert and fan meet for his Filipino fans. He said he loves his fans very much and greatly appreciates that they stood by him and continued to support him despite the controversy with 2PM last year which led to his departure from the group.
Last year, articles surfaced on the Internet regarding his posts from 2005 on his personal MySpace account, in which he voiced out his dislike for his life in Korea while still a trainee. This infuriated a lot of Korean netizens. They demanded his ouster from the country and inked a suicide petition that gained up to 3,000 signatures before it was closed down. Park has already issued an apology regarding this matter and eventually left the group 2PM and returned to the US.

He has since gone solo and staged a successful comeback and all these, he credited to his fans who stood by him through thick and thin.
To show his appreciation, he had a tattoo of his fans’ club done on his back a week ago.

“I did it like a week ago. I have a few tattoos and all of them have a special meaning to me, like the one behind my ear is for my crew. The tattoo on my chest, is for my family and the tattoo on my back is for my fans because they supported me so much through everything, I just wanted to show my appreciation to them,” he said.

In the English version of Nothin’ on You, Jay revealed his feelings toward them by singing “the way you show me love helps me chase away my fears.”

When asked to clarify what really happened and why he left 2PM, Park said he doesn’t want to delve on it anymore.
“I can’t really clarify right now. I’ve talked about this before, it’s kind of I want to leave this in the past, I’m just kind of living fast forward now. I am looking forward and want to be positive,” he said.

In the song Nothin’ on You, where he put his own lines and rap, he talked about putting a lid to that experience.
“There’s so much nonsense. It’s on my conscience, but never mind that, we should let it go. Cause we don’t wanna be a TV episode and all the bad thoughts, just let them go,” he said.

He also looks forward to the day when he can be friends again with the rest of the 2PM guys.
“Unfortunately now, I have no communication with them. We haven’t met each other for a long time but I have nothing but love for the guys, I hope all the best for them, and hopefully one day we can be friends and brothers again,” he said.

The most important thing Park learned from the experience was to be good to the people around him and to the fans.

With regards to his future plans and what’s in store in 2011, Park said he really doesn’t know and will just try to go with the flow.

“I don’t know, I wish I could say what’s in store for me but  I’m just trying to keep everything positive and try to bring my friends with me everywhere and have a good time and give back to the fans,” he said.

“After the fan meet, I don’t really know for sure, I was just thinking of going to LA and work out the music,” he added.
“I never really planned on this, I just kind of go where life would take me, like take all these chances and opportunities that pop up,” he said.

With a talent and the right attitude like that, who can ever put Park down?

Lastly a female reporter asked if he thinks he can have a Filipina girlfriend, Park replied “If the right girl came along, it doesn’t matter what the race is.”
