This is a video cut from March 12th where 3 journalists came together to discuss various issues in the celebrity world. One of the topics that came up was Jaebum's controversy and this is the translated transcript. The round table discussion of journalists
Q. Jaebum's severe private life?
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
It doesn't make sense at all and they announced it without any specific point.
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
And that's why the issue got even bigger.
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
I think that's also what caused the curiosity to amplify.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
Looking at it from the company's perspective, what they've stated so far is that it's a problem with his private life and that it's a greater issue to society compared to his last controversy. That's what the company has revealed so far. Now, let's see. How many issues are there that affect society?
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
Violence.
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
Drugs.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
Gambling.
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
Drunk driving.

And then problems regarding the opposite sex. If you go even further, there's sexual relatons or even a video. Either way, what the company has stated was purposely done to force the fans, the media, and the people of this nation to think of all of the worst possible scenarios regarding his private life.
Basically, Jaebum has received a complete present set of private life rumors from his company. It'd be easier if they just revealed something specific so he can put an end to it and move on. It might not be an issue of drug abuse, but he's forced to have to deal with rumors of drug abuse. It might not be an issue of the opposite sex, but he's forced to have to deal with rumors of the opposite sex.
Now, out of all of this, they have also stated that it isn't something that's punishable by law. Now if you take out everything that is punishable by law, it's not drugs, it's not gambling, it's not drunk driving. You're honestly left with one option.
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
But even so, is having some sort of relation with the opposite sex something worthy of being kicked out?
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
What the company did is they only threw out the keywords as if they're playing 20 questions with the mass public. They stated, "We can't reveal it specifically in order to protect him..." But that one statement is basically translated to the mass comm as 'Please don't try to solve this issue yourself for Jaebum.' The company set the stage for everything but is letting everyone else play the guessing game.
It might be true that his contract termination is something that Jaebum himself wanted. He is also in a situation where he can sign on with another company if he wishes to continue being a celebrity, but because he's tagged with the possibility that he can become an issue to society, the company has made it extremely difficult for him to return to the celebrity world within the nation.
The company itself is the one that should have protected their celebrity, but in this situation, it's the company that has shut its doors against their celebrity... There's a rumor going around that he attempted to transfer to another company, but the company (JYPE) is doing all of this in order to block that. It's a very complex situation right now.
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
Then why did the company make such an announcement? So many people hoped for his return and Park Jinyoung even came out on 'Golden Fishery' to promise Jaebum's return to 2PM, which in turn brought about more despair from the fans because it proved to be false in the end.
It's just very questionable as to why the company felt the need to make such an announcement.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
The company's perspective is like this. If they covered this issue up and let him return to 2PM, there's a possibility of the issue resurfacing. In that case, it's not only Jaebum himself that's going to be thrown into controversy but all of 2PM. They claimed it as an effort to protect the remaining six members. It's the notion that it's not only for Jaebum's protection, but an issue that can put all of 2PM and the company in an extremely dangerous situation.
Q. Is Jaebum's private life not the responsibility of the company?
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
One of the biggest curiosities aroused by this controversy is that the company stated the time frame of Jaebum's mistake to be during their Again & Again promotions. At that point, they were still rookies in the beginning of their debut. Most idol groups dorm together for 2-3 years after their debut and live a life where all of their private lives are controlled and regulated.
If the blame is being placed on the improper care of his private life, the company needs to realize that before they place the blame on Jaebum, they were the ones that did not do their job.
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
For JYPE, in comparison to other companies, they were very free.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
Does JYPE not dorm them?
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
No, 2PM did dorm together. They also did a variety show during the height of their fame with Again & Again and I Hate You that had their dorm as the background of the show. Regarding what the company stated, it's an issue that happened within the boundaries of their responsiblities. It's also one of the points that the fans are making - that the company is just looking at it from a different viewpoint.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
But this is probably something that you all felt as journalists, but idol groups that dorm together... even after mere months after their debut, I don't think it's possible for idols to cause that big of a private life mistake that can effect society so greatly.
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / My Daily
No, it's hard. I remember when I interviewed Super Junior, they said that the one reason that the one break they got from each other was walking to the convienence store. Just going to the store and buying a soft drink...
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
And even then, they have to wait for the sasaeng fans to leave at around 3-4 AM. They go to the convienence store and maybe eat a ramen and go back home. I remember them saying that it was the happiest moment of their dorm lives.
Then does that mean Jaebum stole ramen from the convienence store?
[laughter] But that's punishable by law.
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
Or he could have stolen the ramen and ate it with a girl, which means that it falls into the category of 'opposite sex issue.'
[laughter]
Q. The fans of 2PM members revealing their private lives.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
Since 2PM and the company attacked Jaebum with the issue of private lives, 2PM fans are returning the favor and releasing the private lives of the 2PM members as their weapon. They've released such things as social security numbers or pictures that show their girlfriends. They've been sending such information to the media. What kind of emails have you guys received?
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
I've received emails with the title, "Breaking News." When you open the email, it will usually start off with a paragraph on Jaebum and go into the private lifes of the other members.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
What have they revealed?
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
Things like, 'Such and such member did this in the streets...'
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
I checked my mail on the way to work and realized that I was no longer receiving any.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
Because it's full?
Kang Jihoon / Journalist / MyDaily
Yes, I received hundreds and hundreds within a day. I also received a lot of hate spam, too. I remember finding out in the beginning of January that Jaebum's complete withdrawal was finalized right in this spot. For a month after that, all I received were hate mail. But now that the truth is finally out, I think that the fans have realized that I wasn't lying this whole time and are instead sending me emails asking me if I know the real reason for his withdrawal.
Kim Kyeowool / Journalist / Money Today
For fans to turn into such antis, it's very shocking. They send me so much mail at once.
Shin Minseop / Journalist / Sunday Newspaper
If you take a look at the popular foreign films, the terrorist characters were usually once very nationalistic or come from a military background. To love so much, their country or their organization. They poured all of their love into it.. but once they feel that betrayal, they're the ones that turn into the greatest and most scariest terrorists.
Amongst the fans, there are a lot of people that think that his return is difficult. There's also those that have given up on his return altogether and have instead moved on to sympathizing, or some even going into seeking out revenge for betrayal. It's a very unfortunate situation.
